Facing serious health problems and weighing almost 400 pounds, the Rev. Leon Veazey stood at a crossroads two years ago.

His doctor recommended urgent and drastic weight loss action, and Veazey had some options, including his doctor's recommended choice of surgery.

Veazey, the 27-year-old pastor of Little Flock Baptist Church in the Gum Springs community, instead chose a strict and difficult regimen of diet and exercise. Today, he is 159 pounds lighter, weighing in at 235 pounds. His goal is 225, down from 416 pounds in 1991 and 394 pounds in 2004, when he set out to tackle his problem.
